Back to Bondage? –

The news is abuzz today with talk of “civil war.”  I predicted months ago that this kind of talk would soon be  forthcoming. One would have to be blind not to see the predictable cycle of events taking place. Historically, a people in some kind of slavery move through several stages, thinking they are moving upward and onward. It begins with bondage and then because of severe circumstances and desperation they grasp at spiritual faith. Once their faith is sparked and they cry out to God, they move to great courage.  Because of their great courage, they attempt things which lead to prosperity. After they enjoy prosperity for some time, they become complacent, thinking now that they deserve abundance and they should not have to struggle to to keep it. This attitude leads them to dependence upon whatever source is available to them to prop up their lifestyle with as little effort as possible.  I am convinced that right here in the light of the 242nd  celebration of our determination to be “One Nation Under God”  we are nearly half divided as to whether we believe that we are under God at all. Only disaster can follow a people who once accepted the authority of God, but have now concluded that he is not relevant to their success and prosperity. When someone asks me how I am doing, I inevitably say, “Better than expected!” I do not want, nor intend to go back into the bondage of the sins that enslaved me before I was born of the Spirit of God through the blood of Jesus Christ. I have been made free in Christ and I plan to strive against sin in all of its manifest forms while I enjoy the liberty through which I have been made free. I am doing better than friends from my lost past expected, but more thankfully I am doing better than I expected. I can only imagine what kind of a spouse, father, and workman I would be without the indwelling presence of the person of the Holy Spirit of God.

Psalm 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
